The Academy of Interactive Entertainment Ltd (AIE Ltd) is committed
to the development of the computer games industry and related creative
industries.
The Academy
of Interactive Entertainment provides:
- Accredited industry sponsored and full commercial courses and
programs appropriate to the interactive entertainment industry,
including courses in 3D animation and computer programming.
- Accredited public access courses in partnership with Canberra
Institute of Technology (CIT).
- Assistance to its' graduates to find work in the industry and
- Assistance to employers to recruit trained and qualified staff.
The AIE aims to form alliances with other institutions, both in
Australia and internationally to promote and develop the best practice
training for the industry.
Through Canberra
Technology Park (CTP),
the growth of a strong regional creative industry is encouraged and the
expansion of employment opportunities fostered. CTP provides an excellent
cluster environment where tenants can interact and benefit from
co-locating alongside potentially complimentary businesses and organisations.
AIE's commitment to industry development has seen the introduction
of its industry
development program which aims to grow a creative industries cluster through assisting start-ups. Graduates of AIE incubator courses interested
in creating their own businesses are given access to resources and assistance
to optimise the success of their start-up.
The first of these Kraken
Studios, formed in 2002, has worked on
a range of projects including Constable Keny's Saturday Morning
Survivor, a training program for primary aged students.
AIE Ltd established the Australian
Game Developers Conference (AGDC) in 1999 which was run
by IE Events. The AGDC became an internationally recognised conference
and has raised the profile of the computer games industry and encouraged
its' growth in Australia. IE Events also organises the Canberra
Game Festival and assists clients with event management
needs.
AIE Ltd has been instrumental in the development of the computer
games industry in Australia, through its commitment to training
and the establishment of the AGDC and the Game
Developers Association of Australia (GDAA), the voice
of the game developers in Australia. The GDAA, established in 1999
at the inaugural Australian Game Developers Conference, was created
to foster and promote the development of industry networks and affiliations,
both nationally and internationally.
